HotShots is a screen capture utility which offers several additional tools for editing your screenshots and adding annotations.

The program is currently being developed as an open source project and provides the option of capturing certain areas of your screen such as the entire screen, active window, rectangular areas or by freehand.

HotShots can capture screens by use of a hotkey which is customizable. It can been saved to either your hard drive or to your clipboard, making it paste-able into image editing software like PhotoShop. If you don't have a suitable image editor installed, you can also use HotShots' built-in image editing tools.

The image editing tools provided allow you to draw shapes, straight lines, add text, arrows and annotations, among other tools.

In conclusion, HotShots is a totally free and useful screen capture program offering many features you may expect to find in more expensive, commercial solutions.
